Кстати, некоторые комментарии к этой статье прекрасно согласуются с моими собственными впечатлениями по её поводу, только без использования матерных выражений. Вот пример:

I grew up in rural America, in a district the Republican party deliberately re-drew to make sure a Democrat could never win there again. After the state elected a Democratic governor in 2018, the Republican legislature passed multiple bills limiting her power and ability to govern. At this exact moment Republican extremists are collecting signatures to exploit a legal loophole that will allow an abortion ban to go into effect without the governor being able to veto.

These people were my friends and neighbors. Some of them are very nice, they will plow your driveway in the snow or make you a pie, or offer to pick your kids up at school (although I often wonder how much generosity would be shown if I wasn't white). However these people also believe that climate change is fake, that everyone should own a gun, and that foreigners want to destroy America. One of my mother's colleagues, a medical provider with a master's degree master's degree, carries a pistol with him on all times and has turned down trips to California and Europe because he thinks they have been overrun by Hispanics and Muslims I will not go there without a gun to protect himself.

I know these people, I know how brainwashed they have become through years of right-wing propaganda exploiting genuine fears and insecurities. But they are now unreachable, incapable of being deprogrammed or having their minds changed, and I am no longer going to waste my time on this fool's errand.

The best bet is to continue to reach out to the huge chunk of America that doesn't vote, energize them and convince them of the value of progressive causes.

Yeah, bull. The guy dismisses the urban democratic concentration as explanation without any reasoning other than "it does not explain it." A large proportion of educated Dems live and work in places where there are literally almost no Trump Republicans. Big cities and their suburbs, university campuses, state capitals/governments, etc. Many fewer Republicans (especially educated Republicans) reside in such settings. I have actually done some informal calculations - it is the case empirically. These days many major suburbs vote like inner cities did only 20-30 years ago (and inner cities, of course, have gone off the charts). Same with university towns. A Democratic university professor who does not speak Russian ( :) )has about as much chance of randomly bumping into a Trumpista as into a raving Trotskyite. So, it is natural that education among active Democrats is associated with being unfamiliar with Republicans in general.
