Dear Amy and dear Beto,
I write this hoping you are discussing your possible Beto-2020 run against Mr. Trump. My goal here is to say "Yes, please, please run!" and explain why I think it is a good idea.
Firstly, let me introduce myself. I am a Californian, a US citizen from year 2000, born in the USSR in 1953, a QA Engineer, a secular Jew, an atheist, immigrated with my wife and two kids to the USA in 1994, a Democrat (I have joined the party in 2016 to participate in California primaries where I actively supported Senator Sanders; after Secretary Clinton was nominated, I actively supported her), a grandparent, and a former texting volunteer for the "Beto for Texas" campaign.
I understand that political campaigning is a really hard job, and it requires a lot of sacrifices, both from a family and from a candidate. And it could be absolutely brutal and thankless. Nevertheless, I am begging you to run.
Here are my arguments:
(1) Democrats have one main goal for election-2020: to unseat Mr. Trump. It is a very tough goal. As we know, US voters usually re-elect sitting presidents. I think you are our best chance to unseat Mr. Trump.
Why:
(1a) There will be a lot of Democratic candidates running for the nomination in 2020. So far, I do not see that the excitement level people showed during the Beto-2018 campaign could be generated by any other candidate (with a possible exception of Senator Sanders). Excitement is important. When people really like a candidate, they usually vote for that candidate.
(1b) I like Vice President Biden, Senator Sanders, and Senator Warren very much. Here is the problem: they are from the older generation. You represent a new generation. Young voters' participation is a key for our success in 2020. As long as only 13% or 15% of voters between ages 18 and 29 are voting (and at least 25% of their grandparents are reliably voting as a group basically to destroy the lives of their children and grandchildren), we are going to have outcomes like we did in 2016. We need to change that, and I think you are our best bet to change that.
(1c) I like Senators Booker, Gillibrand, and Harris very much. Their approach I would describe as party-oriented, hierarchical, polls-tested, visibly calculating, extremely careful, and not very authentic. In other words, it’s our old, traditional, usual approach. I think you are our best bet to change that self-destructing style as well.
(1d) You know how to talk to voters. Generally, I hate video (I rather prefer reading). Nevertheless, I have watched your video about NFL protesters probably 10 times. It was absolutely beautiful. People like when explanations are authentic, short, and compelling.
Some other goals we need to achieve:
(2) To successfully govern, Democrats need the Democratic Congress (both House and Senate) after election-2020. You need to say so loudly and clearly. And we can do that. Some results from this year's election in Texas allow me to think so.
(3) You have proved that you can just ignore the dirt and lies generated by our opponents and be calm and on target under pressure. Bravo! I envy... We will need that your ability for sure, both during the campaign and while in office. We need to return sanity and dignity to the White House and to politics in general.
(4) The networks of your supporters are ready to grow and are ready to go. You will need them while in office as well. You can improve their operations step by step, improve their databases, and help guide their goals. Together, we can continue to flip red voters, red districts and red states to blue.
This country needs your help. Election-2020 is less than two years from now. The country needs your help right now, dear Amy and dear Beto!
